Pathfinder Hunt

Hider: Bob WB6JPI

Where: South of Muscoy in Rialto area.

Three transmitters. Just three. That’s all that was needed. The basic idea was to give a really oblique Baldy Bounce by having a main T that had a  140 degree bounce angle and was shielded on the direct path to the start. The main path from Baldy to the T was northwest and the direct path, SW was shielded by the Phillips Ranch hills I found a short semi-paved road (Oakdale) with a passable berm (I drove the Saturn over it) that went out into the Lytle Creek wash just south of Muscoy in Rialto. If you didn’t want to bounce over the berm you could walk in for the 0.3 mile. I was parked there with the 10 element beam pointed at Baldy vertical pol at 10 ft elevation. T1 was running 3 watts and iding as T-7. In air miles it was 29.48 miles from the start and the shortest drive was 33.9 miles 1 hour 37 min and the fastest was 37.4 miles and 57 minutes.

T2 was a squawkbox hanging on a telephone pole on Gray Street that only said “WB6JPI” every 15 seconds, It was only about 1.4 mile northeast of T1 but you had to get across the Lytle Creek wash to get there. This was a 6 mile trip if you knew where you were going.

T3 was hung on a chain link fence alongside a RR track about a mile from T2 at the southern end of Shenandoah Street. It too was a squawkbox saying “WB6JPI” slightly different from T2, but not much, every 15 seconds. To get from T2 to T3 was a 5 mile trip as you couldn’t get across the RR tracks easily.

In summary: T1: N34 8.668 W117 22.074

                    T2: N34 9.847 W117 21.263

                    T3: N34 10.224 W117 20.765

T1 was found by N6AIN/WA6PYE at 10:15PM (2 hrs 45 min) and 78.6 miles. They then went home

T3 was found by KF6GQ at 10:15 (2 Hours 45 min) with 61.0 miles and he went on to find T1 at 10:56 (3 hours and 26 min) and 70.3 miles. He complained that the hunt was too good for a Sat nite hunt, so KF6GQ IS THE WINNER.

WA6UZS didn’t find any Ts but was quite close to T1 before he gave up at 11:00PM.
