WB6JPIs Report

A beautiful window-open breeze-blowing evening. Lots of talk at the start, but not much signal. It finally perked up around 7:45 and got a bearing of 120 degrees. This pointed to so Santiago Peak so I went east on Pathfinder and over to Grand to Edison to Archibald and got on the 15 FWY at Limonite.

The signal was south and I went to Temescal Cyn and proceeded up the bearing and up Dawson Canyon. It got stronger and stronger and the road ended in a nice gate after 3 miles of dirt. But the bearing from here was a good one and due east with 40 dB of attenuator.

So I went back to the 15 Fwy and up to Cajalco Rd and over to the Lake Mathews area. After a few more dirt road excursions I had gotten east of the transmitter and finally got to Lake Mathews road and went south. More little side road tries with no banana.

On south on Lake Mathews Rd until I came to what my map calls Dawson Canyon Rd. It also show another Dawson Canyon Rd just a 1.2 miles south and they do get connected but once joined they continue on as Dawson Canyon Rd. Getting a picture of the confusion possible here.

East on the northern Dawson Cyn. Rd. I come to a rock portal with a dirt road and after a journey in the wrong direction a bit I return and make a sharp right right at the portal and go over a little ridge. The signal goes from 40 dB attenuator to too strong to attenuate…YOU ARE HERE.

For an hour, Dave and I watched the stars, talked to some Australians on 20 meters and had a beautiful ¾ moon rise right over the ridge to get in there. It was very romantic.
