A new spot was found in the Anaheim Hills/Orange Hills area. A new road was
cut to access the Northeastern end of Santiago Oaks Regional park. It
appears that the area will also be a trailhead for that park. Access to the
area was from a very easy to miss driveway cutout about 1/4 mile South of
the Nohl Ranch Rd/Serrano Rd. intersection at the very top of the Anaheim
Hills. A dirt
road lead to a trail head access located at the top of
Santiago Oaks Canyon. T-4 was placed there. It was a micro voice Tx.
The Main Transmitter, T1, was placed at the bottom of Santiago Oaks Canyon,
about 1 mile from T-4. It was a 3 to 20 watt transmitter attached to a
log-periodic beam. This was the wolf transmitter, and barked out my call
sign.
T-3 was placed about 2 miles away on the very top of the Anaheim Hills.
Access to this T was through a very large hidden tunnel that passed under
Serrano Rd. To get to, or even see, this tunnel you had to drive up a
switchback trail on the road to T-1. T-3 was placed under a high tension
tower below the summit of the highest hill and could only be heard from the
Orange side of the ridge.
T2 was placed in a very large and mostly hidden drainage bunker about 100ft
below T-1. This was a 300mw PicCon box. This one stumped several hunters
for a while as they were certain that the actual signal was coming from a
pipe opening about 200ft away and up the canyon wall. It would seem that
the large drain pipe (about 2 meters in diameter) was acting as a waveguide
and sending the signal up the hill. :-)
