We had good weather for this month's Pathfinder T-Hunt, so I hid at a spot that I had scouted for the February Pathfinder, but got rained out. There were two transmitters this time, hidden in the southern Irvine area.

T1 was hidden on a fence near the top of a hill overlooking the 73 toll road south of Bison. It was running 2 watts into a 6 element horizontal Yagi pointing towards Palos Verdes. Some teams got on the toll road and saw a "You Are There" strength signal, with no exit in sight :-). The best access was available at the top of Los Trancos road., above UC Irvine. The signal was shielded at this point by a hill so some teams drove by this spot a few times before deciding to stop. There was a fairly long sniff on mostly-level, well established footpaths from that point to the T. Some hunters sniffed a signal down the canyon, and followed a rather steep path downward, only to have to climb back up the hill. Most hunters agreed that this was a challenging T to find, some more so than others.

T2 was 50mw into a 1/4 wave spike, hidden along a bike path that runs under the high-tension lines along the 405 freeway, south of Culver. Best access to the bike path was from Culver, just north of the freeway. There was another longish sniff hunt from there since the T was near the third power line tower south of Culver. There is no parking on Culver near the bike path, but about 200 feet north of the bike path is a pathway into a housing tract where parking was available. Most teams spent a lot of time looking through the condominiums north of the freeway, searching for an access pathway that doesn't exist. One team decided there was a path over the berm/fence that separated the bike path from the condo complex, which saved them some walking.

Congratulations to WB6ADC / N6UZS / KF6RPX who finished with low miles at 12:40am.

Hope all had a good time hunting.
