What makes a successful hunt from the hider's standpoint? If it's stumping half of the hunters and making the others drive three times as far as the direct mileage, then the October Fullerton Club hunt was a big success. Tom and April helped me put a long beam in a canyon just north of a water tank in the hills south and east of Mission Boulevard in Pomona (TG-640-E4). The beam was aimed ESE, which apparently gave some good bounces from the mountains in Riverside County. The two successful teams each took the 91 freeway to the 71, then north all the way to Mission.

The signal was strongest in the El Vecino Place cul-de-sac, where a locked gate prevented driving up the road to the tank. You could have walked to the antenna from the gate, but it would have been about 800 feet. Fortunately, Los Coyotes Drive goes right by the tank on the other side. That's where the 1-watt transmitter was, and we were there too.

Vince, when you told me you were quitting, your car was only 100 feet from the transmitter! If you had walked up the trail toward the tank, you would have seen it immediately.
