April WA6OPS suggested and arranged for our hiding spot atop a parking structure in the southeast corner of the Hoag Memorial Hospital facility at Newport Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway. For an increased challenge, I used the WB6ADC motorized antenna mount to spin my horizontally-polarized Cubex quad at about 14 RPM. To keep the coax from wrapping around the mast, I added a relay to reverse the rotation every 10 seconds. As the antenna turned, it "lit up" PCH in both directions, plus Balboa and the Hoag buildings.
Except for the bouncing S-meters, navigating to the beach area apparently wasn't too difficult. But some hunters had quite a bit of trouble closing in, with two teams spending time out-of-bounds south of PCH.
Crenshaw Factors did not affect the results.
