The T was placed on the air at 20:00. Transmitter power was 1 Watt feeding a 7-Element horizontally polarized Yagi through a short feed line. The antenna was more or less pointed in the general direction of Mt San Antonio, AKA Mt Baldy. The continuous carrier was punctuated by an MCW Morse ID at one minute intervals.
Signal reports from the start point were nonexistent. The hider reached out to the two hunters believed to be hunting and learned that Josh (KN6AXD) copied the T on his handheld 3-Element Yagi. Ron (WA6CYY) had little signal but was off the races anyway. It was further learned that Bob and Cathy (N6ZHZ and KD6CYG respectively) were also hunting. Bob complained that he could not hear the T on his Yagi but did copy it on his 2-Meter vertical whip. ? Hmm...Bob ultimately figured out that he had too much attenuation dialed in. Better add that the the preflight checklist for next time.
Ron was first to find the T on the West side of Via Sorella, North of Brea Canyon Road, in the City of Diamond Bar. The Lat/Lon of the transmitter were:
33°59'51.06" N
117°50'23.52" W
Ron was followed 18 minutes later by Josh and daughters Lana and Lexi. Bob and Cathy arrived 9 minutes later.
Social distancing was maintained and all
hunters found the T.
