Many transmitters have been hidden at Newport Back Bay over the years, but this hunt marked the first time it happened on a Fullerton Club hunt, made possible by the new boundaries that started in November. Tom, April and I put a 1-watt rig on the little beach just off Polaris Drive, with the 11-element beam aimed at the tall buildings to the east and toward Signal Peak, That's why most teams spent a little time east of the bay. N6MJN claimed he came right down Harbor Boulevard, straight to it. So why was his reported mileage so high?
Phil Goodman KC6SEP and Karen Gerharter KG6USN have been members of Fullerton Radio Club for quite a while, so it was great to see them on their first try at mobile T-hunting. Even without an attenuator, they almost made it all the way on their own.
The DLQ/PYE vehicle has higher Crenshaw Factor than the ME/LOR car, so full Crenshaw calculations were not needed.
