Hiders: K0OV, WA6OPS, WB6UZZ, KE6IPY, KE6WHR
The intrepid team of K0OV, WA6OPS, WB6UZZ, KE6IPY and
KE6WHR hid the January 2002 FRC hunt. We ran about 50 milliwatts into
an 11-element beam at the end of Edgewood Lane in Yorba Linda, overlooking a driving
range and aimed toward Santiago Peak. That apparently wasn't enough power
for a good mountain bounce, but it fooled several hunters into approaching
via Lakeview Avenue. A couple of them walked up the hill from the driving
range (containing the wrong kind of Tee's, of course). Some drove to
within 100 feet of the transmitter, decided there wasn't enough signal, and
drove back out of the new housing area. At least two were fooled into
driving up Carbon Canyon Road. I guess that makes it a successful hide.
