My bearing at the start point was up over the north side of Big Bear Lake . Knowing Steve’s father has a home near there, at the east end of the lake, I was sure he was probably near there. So I ended up on the north side of the lake and all the signals were coming from the south side. Bummer.

So across and over 38 to the south side and back west towards Seven Oaks I go. Now there is plenty of signal but it’s everywhere. How ever the real signals do seem to come from the north some where. I turned off on Glass Rd towards Seven Oaks. Then I go back east on River Rd , a dirt road that seemed to be going in the direction of the signals, 3 Ts by now. A mile and ½ down the road the signals had moved to the left. The only way to get there was to continue east to the intersection with Front line road and go back west.

Going back east, I past a dirt road on the right. The signals from T1 and T2 seemed to be coming from there but it was so weak that I was sure the Ts must be higher up on the road towards Big Bear so I continued on west. I hadn’t gone far before a 3rd T (T0) came on and was full scale. I quickly turned in attenuation. It was strong enough to be right there at a turn in the road. I got out and quickly found it in the bushes.

Continuing on I headed up Radford Truck Trail, a nasty road that goes all the way to the top of the ridge over Big Bear.

I was well up the road when I met Jippy coming down. He said he had found nothing up there. Believing him, a dangerous thing knowing his skill at prevarication, I headed back down the mountain.

As I made my way back down, I had some radio problems which will not be covered in this story. It made it difficult to do much T-hunting but I was sure now that Steve must be up that dirt road I passed down at the bottom. I could also see what looked like his Big D well down the hill as I looked over the edge.

Heading up the before mentioned road, the signals for T1 and T2 were getting much stronger and as I came around a corner I could see Steve setting there at T2. After a short sniff I was able to find T1 farther on down the road.

Thanks Steve for an enjoyable day of hunting.
