The Hunt started like most GQ hunts, crappy signal...if you can hear it
at all. Don had to fiddle with the T to get it heard by anyone at the start When we finally
heard the T it was due East. Our bearing of 95 degrees took us out the 10 fwy.
We decided to drop Dave's car off at home in Yucaipa since we would be passing there on our
way to the T. Along the way we checked the always very weak signal...still due east.
The signal went away as expected when we entered the shadow of the mountains.
We dropped off the car, and hearing nothing in any direction, we continued
out the 10. We got really concerned in Palm Springs when we still heardnothing.
We got on a high spot called Edom Hill where Scott had hidden a few months ago.....
nothing in any direction.
So having fell victim to a wicked Box Springs bounce we drove back West taking the 60 through
the badlands...where we heard the T just fine comingfrom the Ellsinore area. David
remembered that Don had threatened to rehide a spot no one had found on a Pathfinder hunt
a couple of years ago...some place called El Toro road. so there we went. After running
into many muddy holes, washouts, water crossings, a small version of the Grand
Canyon, closed areas, gates, and private property signs ...including
the faded private property sign Don hid behind....we finally found Don
and Steve.....171.0 miles later.
All in all it was a fun hunt....But Don you have to stop hiding
behind private property signs.
