Steve's (LAJ) & Don's version

 of the May All-Night Hunt

When we arrived at the start point, there was several other hunters there already. Deryl & Steve (XFC) where talking to Wayne on the phone, getting clues on the hunt. Apparently because of the inversion layer, the signal just wasn't getting to the start point. Well we didn't need to know what direction the signal was coming from, we already knew that they would be hiding in their favorite place east of Kingman Arizona. Now nobody could hear a signal, but both MI & AIN claimed that they heard a signal at about 45 and 48 degrees. Now we know that no one could hear anything, but seeing that MI had his special sniffer on (see pictures) and Deryl had been talking to Wayne, we had to believe that the bearings where correct. So off to Cajon Pass & Summit Inn for a bearing and something to eat. Oh the way we decided to pick up Steve's car which had been left at my house, and have him drop it off at his house in Fontana, figuring that we will come back this way from Kingman Arizona. Well! when we got to the summit, the bearings were not going to the northeast, but to the northwest! Oh well, we will have to wait for Wayne and Pete's next hide to go to Kingman Arizona. So up the 395 to Ridgecrest, where the bearings started turning to the west. So into the canyon just west of Indian Springs Micro Brewery we went. Saw Wayne & Pete coming out of the canyon, and talked to them for awhile, told them that we where disappointed that they had picked the same canyon that we where planning to hide in come July. Oh well, on with the hunt. We went up the canyon to find some T's, T1 was up the far end to the north side and at lease one T was on the left side of the canyon, so we went for the Cabin road to a mine site, There we found our first T, and we where the first there! What happened to AIN? Had they got stuck somewhere? Was there any water to cross near here? We hadn't heard any cries for help yet, so we didn't think that they could be badly stuck yet. So off to T1 we went. Being that there was only one real good road, all we had to do was follow the road to T1, and to Jippy who we saw coming back from some rocks, away from where the signal seems to be. So when we got there we asked Jippy if we need to sniff up in those rocks. He told us that if we want to we could sniff, but we wouldn't need to use any radio sniffing equipment, only nose equipment (phew!). So sorry to hear Jippy’s story. Signed into T1 and then left to find any more T's on the way out. We found a T just below T1, I think it was T8 and we heard a T with no id or any modulation, that seemed to be farther down the canyon, but we decided that for us to get back home at a reasonable hour, that getting three T's was enough for us. On the way out we could hear another T and went looking, but we got on the wrong side of a canyon from it and decided that to go back would be too time consuming. So off we go down the canyon. We now we could hear AIN & XFC calling for help. OK! now we are getting somewhere. But as it turns out it's not them that are stuck, but a lady who has got her truck down on the side of the road, and got hung up. Steve (XFC) was trying to get in front of her, so he could pull her forward. Jippy was in the area too, and we couldn't go pass, with out trying to help so we went down to help, if we could. All of us together had enough things & thoughts on how to get this lady out of her trouble. See Jippy's account of how it was done. We left the area quite happy with the T's found, and stopped in four corners for dinner then home. We had a good hunt, lot's of fun, not too much frustration, and saved somebody from certain disaster.
