Meathead Hunt

It was not a beautiful day. Don is nuts. I saw rain, mist, fog, and lots of wind. Yes there was some sun, and scattered clouds, but..

I left the start with a 25 degree bearing and went up to HWY  2 and over the Angeles forest into Palmdale.  Met Deryl there and we had lunch in Lancaster, well I had lunch, Deryl mostly looked at his BBQ sandwich. I then went up Hwy 14 to Garlock cutoff and tried to go up the powerline road north to T1 but gave up. A good thing as it wasn’t up the PL road. Went on to Hwy 395 and again met Deryl who had taken a 40 mile long-cut to get there. Went north looking for a westerly road and found a dirt road and wandered in about 5 miles. Finally connected with a marginally paved road and got speeds up to 10 MPH. A freeway after the 7 miles of motorcycle trail we had been on. Found T1 just past the second radio site.

Took the semi-paved road back to Hwy 395 and north to past the Hwy 14 intersection and in to Short canyon. Here things got tricky. I tried my new visual map overlays to try to determine what happened to short canyon road. It was on De Lorme  Topo 7, but was not to be found. From the bearings, it was clear that the hiders found it.. My hard to come by overlays didn’t show anything but what the map showed, but that road was just not there. I went all over the area and finally found a connector road. I met Bob/Cathy and Deryl at T2. They had come in the short canyon road from the south, something they didn’t want to talk about. We all went back on my nice but hard to find road. On the way we all met Doug coming in on the mystery road. I suspect he found my tracks.

We had a better than normal dinner at the Brewery/Steakhouse in Indian Wells, about 4 miles from T2.

I think I won the hunt. I finished in 204 miles and Bob/Cathy had 201 miles but my Crenshaw would change mine to 199 and Bob/Cathy to 208.  But, we decided that Bob/Cathy should hide as I am hiding in March.
