At 9:30 I JUST put my HORZ 13 ELE
beam back up, 
I allwas install it facing east so
don't hit the elements on the roof .before I rase the mast
so I turn the radio on at 9:46 and
BAM! I hear a ZHZ in CW  (S5) ...   the hunt is on!!!
it was pure luck I heard that thing as
my beam is VERY narrow   ...
so I called my mom to tell her to get
ready to go .
the current bearing was 275*.......
so off we went  on the 210 at
11:30  towards "the pass" and we first thoght  29
palms    but as we came to the pass the signal went dead
north  "3*"

note   we herd TONS of intermod  on 565  it was so
bad (S6) at times  I allmost hunted it  to find the "___"
with the illegal signal ..       it was
coming from sunset ridge and was a VERT signal ..go figure..I feal
sorry for the doppler guys  it must had confused the heck
out  of them  )))))))
we went thowe the pass and it pointed
right at Edwards AFB   I said" AFB +ZHZ = is a no brainer"
it makes
sense..      so we went on up the 395 and the
signal went  to the hard west south 100* at times  but I knew
it was a bounce from wrightwood....
so we went north.."last known good
bearing " was 34* at the time  
at 4 corners I had 6dB in
..   and it pointed at Boron..     
we spent like a good hour in boron ..
we went over 5 miles of sharp dirt road and over 2 RR tracks right next
to the borax plant (((((( there were tons of rocks right on the rails
and the rails were very rusty so I knew it was safe to cross ...no
trains in a long time ))))))))
we got back on HW 58 and once again
I  jumped the gun at north Edwards 
we went north on a road and then the
signal went west again  so over 9 miles of dirt road we went
...   at this point it was 3:00  and I was sure we were
close .....32dB in 
also my mom started to get
pissed  at the idea of possibly being lost ...  I told her
"Mr.garmin" and my 55W radio will save us . and this is the BEST time
to be lost with all the hunters out there ..we were NEVER lost
..    
so off we went to the west
more..  with 52 dB in..
and the signal was getting stronger by
the mile 
and it started to point at this small
mountain west of north edwards but east of Cali city  
by this time I had the whole 65dB attn
in line, WE WERE THERE!
my mom refused to go any further
..  so I marked this spot on the GPS..

I would have gone on foot but it was
103* and all I had was sandals on so I did not..
we called ZHZ on 565 to tell him were
giving up ..   (((his signal also pointed to the mountain))
after we gave up we went west  to
the paved road that ZHZ / CYG mentioned ,
 I continued to hunt the signal
to attempt to triangulate it
and sure enough it was pointing dead
at that  darn  mountain...  
later that night I could still here
the thing (S4)  !!!   from my house 
thats our story  .....
