Mini All Day Hunt

Hider: Doug WA6RJN

I thought about the various areas I had picked out to hide in. I decided on Mojave. I looked over the area and found a place on the southwest side of a ridge located near Tehachapi Willow Springs road and Backus road. The main T (T1) was on the desert floor on Trotter road east of 90th street West running 30 watts into an horizontal 11 element beam pointed south at the starting point. I was hoping that the ridge would shield the signal as the hunters came up Hwy 14. The idea was to get the hunters to drive past the T. T10 (50 mW) was hidden near by in a cactus

T2 (50 mW) was hidden about 1.5 miles up a decent dirt road that started near the junction of the California Aqueduct and Randsberg Cutoff road near where the old Hwy 58 meets the new Hwy 58 north of Mojave. I call this the distracter T as it was supposed to distract the hunter from hunting T1. It had a great view of the valley. I had comments from other hams located in Phelan that it was full scale and could be heard on a handheld. Near T2 was T5 (50 mW) hidden behind a small ridge so that it could not be heard except near T2. The idea was that T5 and T9 should not be heard until you were near T2.

T9 was located near the end of Randsberg Cutoff road at Rockhouse Road but was on the other side of Hwy 58 and the railroad tracks, i.e. you can't get there from here. It was running 50 mW into a horizontal 4 element beam pointed at T2. T9 was behind a ridge so that it could not be heard to the south.

T11 (50 mW) was a last minute drop and was located at the California Aqueduct and Randsberg Cutoff.

The hunt had two themes: signals hidden by a ridge and all the antennas were horizontally polarized. According to Scott, N6MI and Wayne, KB6NYW, the desired signal effects were achieved.
