N6MI hiding! Well sorta, actually Scott wanted to exchange with KC6TNJ. He felt that February would be better for the hunt he wanted to put on. Or that's the story I got.

AF6O and the group at the 'Boxing Day T Hunt Film Festival' lamented that we didn't laugh as much during the hunts. KC6TNJ took this to heart and endeavored to try and make this hunt more fun. At least make it so the hunters would run into each other during the hunt. This he thought would make for good discussions and less than accurate tails!

The weekend before KC6TNJ and WA6TQQ went out to El Mirage Dry Lake and Shadow Mountains, It was decided to locate the main T behind Shadow Mountains. I haven't any Idea what the name of the peak, or rather, the hill name was. It was at West End though.

The main T was just below the crest and aimed something like 211 degrees, we could hear 147.435 - S9 and the PV machine S6. So we knew we could get in to the start point. The day of the hunt the "Hider" N6MI reported the signal was perfect, dubious I know, but we accepted it.

With the main T placed we could not resist the old mine shaft about 35 yards down the road from the main T, so that's where T1 was put.

T2 went not, but just a little ways away at a FAA tower. A 'GQ' T actually all the number Ts were 'GQ' Ts. From the tower, we drove north in the desert to this nifty dirt road that went east to 395. The plan at this time was to go out to 395, then south to 'Princess Pat' mine road, west on Princess Pat (actually past the mine), to this spot 'TNJ' had in mind. We hit this shell of a house about 100 yards of the road. "WOW", spot for number 3, in a tree behind the house.

The map says there is a tracking station off this east/west road we were traveling on, we checked it out, not much of a tracking station, and too much Air Force rules around, but intriguing non the less. I guess I couldn't persuade Wayne to hide on one of the optical targets, Damn! Down now to "PPM" and up to this concrete dam like gizmo. We placed T4 on the front edge of the dam, but alas this T failed. I guess I disconnected the antenna when I placed it. We didn't know it at the time because we were so close to it. We drove up this road to a higher elevation and put T5 in what looked like a defunked mine shaft.

While at T5 we spotted a canyon below us for out last T. We came back out and headed east on this "Well Yeah! I guess it qualifies as a road" that wandered up this canyon. When we got to where we thought the T5 was above us we hid the "TQQ" T. A 'GQ' T screwed right into a 4-element beam laid across a bush.

Our plan worked. Teams started showing up in late afternoon, 'AIN' etc. All were first, but soon most of the teams were in the area. Lots of stories and lots of fun.

I guess for everybody but Bob and Cathy. Bob holed his radiator on a creosote bush. The water leaked out then or so Bob says. We got Bob setup with 18 gallons of water and sent him off towards LA.

We took down the main T at about midnight, 'VCR' came back up towards the main T to find T1 so, as I taken that T down I put it back. 'VCR' was sure it was a ways back in the shaft, we finally convinced them to look again, which they did and found it. I guess it was about this time that 'ZHZ' let us know his predicament.

Wayne and I, after a trip in and out of town, with water for Bob, retired to the 'Days Inn' and 'R-O-Ned' (rest over night). The next morning we collected the remaining T's and headed for home.

THAT'S ALL, 73  WA6TQQ and KC6TNJ
